Abstract
This study was conducted to suggest the contents of systematic education programs, which can be conducive to the effective rehabilitation of stroke patients by identifying stroke-related knowledge of caregivers and their education demand. 70 copies were analyzed by collecting questionnaire papers in S hospital and K hospital located in Busan, from August 1, 2012 to August 20. In the result of this study, the average scores of stroke knowledge scores were 11.14 of 15, which appear to be high. The answer that they have not received stroke-related education was the majority, and the most places, where stroke information was acquired, were hospitals and clinics. This shows that caregivers would have a lot of opportunities to acquire knowledge and information about stroke while taking care of their patients in hospital compared to ordinary people. In terms of the scores of education demand, the scores of questions regarding the physical maintenance and health management were high. In terms of the knowledge difference according to general characteristics and disease, the scores of high school graduates were higher than those of elementary school graduates, showing a significant difference, depending on the degree of education. In terms of education demand according to general characteristics and diseases, men`s demand was higher than women`s, showing a significant difference, depending on sexes. In the religion, Catholics had a higher education demand than those who have no religion, showing a significant difference. This study indicates that the offering of differentiated education to caregivers of stroke patients is required, and visual education methods instead of a simple knowledge delivery can be conducive to helping caregivers in accordance with their high education demand. In addition, this study demonstrates that caregivers are liable to take care of their patients well with high quality service by keeping their health through education.
